Private Thomas Cartledge was born in 1839. He served as "Private" in 1st Battalion, 6 th Royal Regiment which was a part of Jounpore Field Force. He undertook the task of suppressing the Revolt in Jounpore 1859 ( Part of Revolt of 1857) and was killed in action on 17 April 1859 at Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, India aged 20 years
